Vietnam National Flag

The national flag of Vietnam is red with a large yellow five-pointed star in the center. The shape and flag ratio is described as 2:3 (length 1½ times the height). According to Ancient and Heraldic traditions much symbolism is associated with colors.

The yellow colors on the Vietnamese flag represent a symbol of generosity and red shows hardiness, bravery, strength and valour. The blood red color of the background indicates a communist flag

In 1939 the present Vietnamese flag was created by one teacher who worked for Vietnam communist party. One year later He was prosecuted to dead by the French colonialist.

It has to main colors: Red stand for blood and yellow stand for color of Vietnamese skin. "Red blood and yellow skin are Vietnamese".

The stars with five focal points stand for five type of people at that time were: Intellectuals, Farmers, Workers, Business men and Soldiers.

The Vietnamese flag first officially hoisted in the Ba Dinh Square on the occasion of the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independent. (Former name for Socialist Republic of Vietnam).

Vietnam Emblem

The national emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is circular in shape; in the middle of a red background is a five-pointed yellow star framed by rice ears below which is half a cogwheel and the inscription: Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Vietnam National Anthem

"Tien Quan Ca" in English means: "Army March" is the national anthem of Vietnam. It was written and composed by Van Cao (1923-1995) in 1944, and was adopted as the national anthem of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945. It became the national anthem of the unified Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1976. Although written with 2 verses, only the first one is used as the official anthem.

Vietnam National flower

The Lotus is regarded as the national flower of Vietnam. It is as one of the four graceful flowers and plants, along with the pine, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. Known as the ‘flower of the dawn’.
The lotus always grows in lakes ponds with a layer of moss or mud on top of the water.

To the Vietnamese, the lotus is the symbol of purity, commitment and optimism for the future. The elegance of the lotus is often cited in the Vietnamese folk songs and poems.

The flowers became symbolic of immortality and resurrection because people observed that they would grow from the bottom of dried up pools after the monsoon rains.

Lotus flowers are used in different ways: the flowers are offered to deities, the seeds are used for tea, and the leaves are used to wrap green rice. Lotus seeds can also be made into a tonic medicine and anesthetic and into an ingredient for sweet soup and other recipes
