Lung Cu peak is located in Lung Cu – Dong Van, about 160 km from Ha Giang center. Lung Cu is consisted of ¾ of rocks with a national flag as a highlight.

The flagpole is built on Rong Mountain, the foot of the tower was carved with pattern of Dong Son bronze drum, the flag is silhouetted on Lo Lo river surface. At closer look, there appears a large and beautiful cave in the halfway of Rong mountain, which is called Si Man Khan.

Lung Cu flagpole was first built in in Ly Thuong Kiet Dynasty and originally made of a sa moc wood. The pole was rebuilt in 1887 under French colony. In later years, the pole was renovated several times until it has its shape and design as today. The flagpole has the height of 33.15 m with the pole foot is 20.25 m, diameter of 3.8 m.

The pole foot and base have 8 bluestone dimensions carved with Dong Son bronze drum’s patterns and the vignettes illustrating the stages of Vietnam history, as well as customs and people in Ha Giang. The body of the flagpole has stairs going to the top. On the top is Vietnam’s national flag with area of 54 meter square.

The path to the flagpole has 839 stone steps of stairs. At the foothill, they exhibit the costumes, working tools, cultural and handicraft products of Ha Giang people.

Lung Cu commune has total area of 3,460 ha with 9 villages and has border with China of more than 16 km. Among 9 communes and villages of Lung Cu, Seo Lung belongs to the ultimate part of the North pole with Then Van valley on the left and Nho Que river originating from Mu Cang, Yunnan, China on the right.

Ethnic people in Lung Cu cultivate and grow terraced field most of the time. Mong and Lo Lo ethnic group in particular still preserve traditional weaving from flax.

In addition, Lung Cu preserves many historical and precious cultural artifacts from Hung King Dynasty. According to historical records, under Tay Son Dynasty, King Quang Trung had a huge drum put in this borderland. The position of the drum is on the outpost border station of Lung Cu today.

That’s the reason explaining how Lo Lo people in Lung Cu are proficient in using bronze drum inspired by Dong Son bronze drum.

Lung Cu is also the homeland of many renowned dishes and specialties, such as San tea, honey wine, corn wine, faded cherry, pear blossom, white snow and “thang co” dish. Along with the distinctive characteristics of traditional culture, Lung Cu truly is the bewitching place for tourists.

Especially, the beauty of Lung Cu is best revealed in spring when the atmosphere is fresh, the H’mong people blow the leaf flute flirting their partners, resonating the whole area, as well as the sound of the bronze drum by the fire.
