One of the reasons that Hanoi - the capital city of Vietnam, has attracted so many tourists over the years is its Hanoi Old Quarter (36 old streets). It is an area well-known for the history, the architecture, the enormous amount and diversity of products and even the everyday life of its residents.

The Hanoi Old Quarter, near Hoan Kiem lake, has the original street layout and architecture of old Hanoi. Residential living and bustling was formed from the Ly – Tran dynasty, located east of the Thang Long citadel to watch the Red River. At the beginning of the 20th century the city consisted of only about 36 streets, most of which are now part of the old quarter.

Characteristics of the most famous of the city's old town craft. Craftsmen from the villages around the ancient Thang Long gathered here, focusing on each region specializes in making their career. The merchant ships can go into the streets to trade in, making the city more professional development. And traded products become street name, with the words "Hang" in front of each town a professional trade items. Each street then had merchants and households specialized in a particular trade, such as China bowls (Bat Su), roasted fish (Cha Ca) silver or jewelries (Hang Bac), women accessories (Cau Go) shoes and sandals (Hang Dau), silk (Hang Gai ) mixed fruits (To Tich)...

Visitors will certainly be eager to wander along the old streets to drop by stores and buy specialties. The street names nowadays still reflect these specializations, although few of them remain exclusively in their original commerce. Local cuisine specialties as well as several clubs and bars can be found here also. A night market (near Dong Xuan market) - market taking place along 4 walking old streets: Hang Dao - Hang Ngang - Hang Duong -Dong Xuan- in the heart of the district opens for business every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening with a variety of clothing, souvenirs and food.

A further characteristic of the old town is the ancient architecture of the mall. These are mainly the tubular house, tilted roofs, facades are visually shops are not indented.
